Inspired by La Jetée (1962) and the Asco Art Collective’s No Movies, I sought to make my own film that highlights the highly underutilized geography of the Central Valley (California) in media. “La jaula de oro” or “the golden cage” my mother calls the States: highlights the promises of the American dream. Through the physical representation of Los Files (the fields), mental health, addiction, belonging, and family are marked with the struggle between American individualism and endangered collectivism.
